JUNE UPDATE-
As we reported earlier, the cylinder heads were in such bad shape that it
wasn't worth repairing them. So what does a racer do when he has to change parts? That's right, he goes for the better stuff!
The end result here is that we have made a change from the old Keith Black small displacement engine to a much larger (526
cu inches) TFX billet engine with Alan Johnson Nitro heads. This has taken a great amount of time, effort and expense to
accumulate all the parts and pieces necessary to make this change. We've had to change the transmission, fuel pump, fuel system,
intake manifold, blower pulleys, rear end gears, add a data logger to help prevent engine damage by giving us engine performance
information, and change out all the o-rings and gaskets that could be damaged by contact with nitromethane.
So we have had our plate pretty full with this. More later.......
August update-
We have nearly all the parts to put it back together in nitro configuration.
We now have:
- New Titanium Crowerglide 3-disk clutch,
- Prototype ETC Rev Limiter made just for this car-Thanks to Hank Iden at ETC!
- New Stage 5 roller rockers, shafts and stands
- New Alan Johnson dual plug fuel heads machined for down nozzles
- Waterman 30 GPM pump
- Hilborn 30 gpm pump (we will decide which to use when we get some fresh flow numbers)
- RPM Data Logger
- New Valve covers
- New dash board
- New 1972 Mustang Mach 1 body
- New Arais 6.25 to 1 coated fuel pistons
- New Venolia Rods
- 31% Lenco 2 speed w/reverser
So, now that we have all these parts, we need to get them together and get it fired up!
We are still shooting for the Texas Timing Association's Texas State Championships on October 23rd
in San Antonio. We want that first win, this year!
September update:
Well, my little overseas job ran a lot longer than it was supposed to and that has put me way behind
on getting this back together. Have to take the money when it's there or we can't play with these toys.
So now we have to make a plan to get the car back together, tested and ready for the season start
in March. That is not that far away!
Mags and fuel pumps are out for testing and upgrades.
A full chassis inspection is next on the list.
More as we make progress!
